The Canton of St.Gallen
The Canton of St.Gallen in today's form was founded on March 19th, 1803. That day Napoléon Bonaparte decreed with his Act of Mediation the foundation of the Canton in the form that Karl Müller-Friedberg (the ‘founding father’ of the Canton) had suggested.
The territory of the Canton originated in the merging of the territories left over from the restoration of the Cantons Glarus, Schwyz and Appenzell from the helvetic Cantons Linth and Säntis.
